Sept 20 - Ground Breaking Initiative to Discover Local Creative Talents |
The highly anticipated and much talked about Fashion World Talent Awards (FWTA) will kick off at the end of September 2009. In July earlier this year, the CreateHK’s Design Smart Initiatives announced its financial support into the creative industry to assist in the development of local talents. As a recipient of the CreateHK grant, the organizer of the FWTA, the Hong Kong Apparel Society (HKAS), hopes the competition will unearth even more hidden talents of the local fashion industry.
With preparations that spanned over 6 months, the launching ceremony for the mainland China division of the FWTA was held at the Royal Mediterranean Hotel in Guangzhou. Traveling from Hong Kong to support the launch included Mr Felix Chung, HKAS Chairman and FWTA Founder; Ms Judy Mann, FWTA Project Consultant and Chairman of FWTA Judging Committee; and Mr William Tang, renowned fashion designer and one of the FWTA Head Judges. As well as to kick off the mainland China component of the competition, the Guangzhou press conference also served the purpose of announcing the commencement of the Hong Kong competition, with entrants able to enroll for either with immediate effect.
Unique for the Fashion Industry – FWTA presents a “First” for local professionals In recent years, the high demand for fashioners in Hong Kong and mainland China has increased rapidly, with previously unheard of talents wowing the industry with their magic. Noticing the need, the HKAS created the first ever FWTA to provide a platform for these designers to shine and to showcase their abilities. The initiative also aims to develop these individuals and assist them on their career path into the international arena, as well as to attract public attention to the industry and educate them on what lies behind all the glamour often associated with fashion.
A breakthrough to new grounds, FWTA embraces the epitome of Creation The FWTA’s objective is to become an annual signature event of the fashion world and it carries a never-seen-before format of competition It is a competition that combines Fashion Design, Imaging Styling and Fashion Photography into a 3-in-1 unique contest. With a highly innovative and refreshing competition setup, entrants will be grouped into units of three (of one from each category) as they take their place under the spotlight to express creative ideas, demonstrate teamwork abilities and test communication skills.
Cross border outreach, FWTA message to connect with an audience of global proportions
To further raise the public’s awareness of the industry and bridge the gap between the two, the organizers will put the FWTA on our screens at home to enable the public to gain a deeper understanding of the fashion field. The awards, through November to March next year, will be produced into a 7-episode television “docu-tainment” series showcasing the competition proceedings and behind-the-scenes highlights. Through available TV and online communication channels, the message of FWTA will reach audiences across the globe, attracting a huge amount of attention for local talents, and hence giving the Hong Kong design industry a boost that it deserves. As a result, the HKAS hopes new business opportunities for Hong Kong and mainland China based talents will also increase.
The FWTA official website will be launched on September 28th, 2009. For information on the initiative, please visit www.fwta.com.hk. Enrollment form can also be downloaded there.
