The Fashion World Talent Awards (FWTA) was established to discover new creative talents in fashion and to provide the general public with a glimpse at the behind-the-scenes realities of the glamorous fashion world. In doing this, we wish to inspire the people in the fashion field to recognize their professional status in the society as well as within the industry. The FWTA also aspires to elevate Hong Kong’s standing in the international fashion map and to consolidate its position as Asia’s Fashion Capital.

Mainland China is not just a manufacturing base, but also a huge domestic market for Hong Kong fashion and local creative talent. In order to integrate harmoniously with the rapid developing fashion industry in the Mainland, we must have ourselves well equipped at all time. Collaboration and communication skills are among the important elements. In the FWTA Grand-Final, contestants from Mainland China and Hong Kong are having the chance to work together and compete with each other. This provides the contestants with a valuable opportunity to share and develop their creative ideas and skills, as well as culture and language. This experience will broaden and solidify their networks across both regions.

 While the FWTA’s focus is on discovery and fostering of new talents, none of this would be possible without the expertise of our prestigious judges. I would like to thank the members of the ‘Executive Committee for Judging’ and all the judges for providing much-valued guidance and time throughout the competition. Finally, I wish the very best of luck to all contestants and wish them every success for their future in the fashion industry.

As one of the founders of FWTA, I shared the vision and desire with Judy Mann and Felix Chung to foster a new generation of talent to enter into the global fashion industry. FWTA is the bridge for making this vision a reality.

Being the project director, my foremost duty was to nurture and develop this initial concept to the established project it is today. My belief is that FWTA amalgamates the different elements of the fashion world instead of focusing on fashion design alone. Therefore, the importance of the distinct facets of the fashion world is represented throughout this process.

As a result, we have gathered the young elite from the three fields of the fashion industry for this 3-in-1 competition. Throughout the competition thus far, these young people have proven that their creative talents are equally matched with their determination and drive. Our grand-finalists are testament to the both the potential and creative originality of untapped talent within the Hong Kong fashion industry. I would like to personally congratulate each of these contestants for their achievements so far.

Having witnessed the inaugural FWTA from it’s initial concept to where it is today, I have faith that future FWTAs will continue to be a breeding ground for discovery and mentoring of new talents for Hong Kong fashion. This event will both foster growth and a better understanding of the fashion industry. I also believe that FWTA will be a well-acclaimed glamorous annual event for not only Hong Kong, but also for the world.
